About the book

Most organisations do not fail for lack of ambition. They set goals, launch initiatives, and demand results — and months later the results have not arrived, nobody can say precisely why, and the next round of goal-setting begins. The Performance Bridge argues that the gap between intent and results is not a motivation problem or a talent problem. It is a missing structure: the causal chain that connects the daily work people do to the strategic outcomes leaders want has never been built, so pushing harder on either end moves nothing in the middle.

The book supplies that structure as a five-link chain, designed from the top down and run from the bottom up.

Leaders, the book shows, habitually spend their attention on the two links they can least control — demanding outcomes that are already history by the time they are visible, and micromanaging activity without direction — while the two links where their leverage actually lives, drivers and structure, go neglected. Chapter by chapter, the book replaces that habit with a working discipline: how to write a strategy that names what is actually in the way; how to choose the few measures that genuinely predict results, and pair each one against the gaming it will invite; how to find the single hinge blocker that is holding an entire transformation still; and how to build the structure — tools, data, training, permissions — that lets good work persist without heroic effort.

Throughout, the book insists on a second ledger most performance systems ignore: vitality — the trust, skills, energy, and honesty about problems that determine whether this period's results can be repeated next period, or were quietly borrowed from it.

Inside the book

Who it is for

The book is written for leaders and practitioners who are accountable for results they cannot produce by themselves: executives running transformations, functional heads translating strategy into operations, and programme owners who have watched a well-planned initiative stall and want to know exactly where the chain broke. The discipline is drawn from more than two decades of leadership across Asia, running large and complex businesses across fourteen countries, and it is written to be applied, not admired.

See the framework applied

The AI Transition Framework explorer applies the book's five-link model to the hardest implementation problem of this decade: bringing artificial intelligence into a company. It maps the documented successes and failures of 2023–2026 onto the bridge, link by link, with a 43-case library you can diagnose yourself.
